Indoor Tipi

(in collaboration with Ambre Panhard)

NOTE OF INTENT

DESIGN BRIEF:
Designing an interface between two rooms with different use.

DEVELOPMENT:
Small children enjoy building ephemeral structures in the middle of living rooms. Blanket forts or indoor tipis delimit a sheltered space dedicated to play, imagination and daydreaming. This childhood practice inspired us to develop a discontinuity in an adult space to allow this mental transition from a focus (work) to a relaxed (rest) state, while providing a fluid architectural interface between two rooms.

PROJECT:
In a flat serving as a co-working space, a wooden structure, the tipi, delimits a relaxation area (for napping, meditating, reading) and creates a flow between the working space and the shared kitchen.

MEDIUM:
Foamcore, wooden ramrod, felt, rubber band.
